The riding of Toronto—St. Paul's was vacated on January 16, 2024, following the resignation of Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett. [6] [7] Bennett, most recently the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health in the government of Justin Trudeau, had held the seat since 1997. [8]
The ward was created in 2018 when the provincial government aligned Toronto's then-44 municipal wards with the 25 corresponding provincial and federal ridings. [1] [2] The current ward is made up of parts of the former Ward 21 St. Paul, the former Ward 22 St. Paul and the southern portion of the former Ward 15 Eglinton—Lawrence.
