The parish is the first established on the Gulf Coast. When the Mobile settlement was relocated to its present site in 1711, a new parish church was built and was known as Notre Dame de la Mobile (Our Lady of Mobile). [3] In 1781, during the Spanish occupation of Mobile, the parish took its current name, Immaculate Conception. [4]
This building was originally the parish church for Saint Vincent de Paul Parish. The neighboring Black parish, St. Peter Claver, was established in 1911. On December 25, 1970 these two parishes were combined to form Prince of Peace. A new St. Vincent de Paul Parish was then established in western Mobile County to serve the Tillmans Corner area.

Francis Xavier Parish was established in 1868. The vernacular style building was completed in 1916, replacing a previous structure destroyed in a hurricane . It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 3, 1991, as part of the Historic Roman Catholic Properties in Mobile Multiple Property Submission .
