Junior High Division students compete in a variety of events, including Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, Tie-Down Roping, Chute Dogging, Team Roping, Ribbon Roping, and Junior Bull Riding, Bareback Steer Riding and Saddle Bronc Steer Riding.
High School Events. Bareback Riding. Must ride one handed for 8 seconds to receive score. Highest score wins. Score is based 50 off the horse and 50 off the rider. Feet of rider must be on point of shoulder when animal’s front feet hit the ground leaving the chute. If fail to do so, that marks as a no score.

On June 20-22, 1947, the very first Texas State High School Championship Rodeo was held. It featured a total of 121 entries, with athletes competing in just two events - Tie Down Roping and Breakaway Roping. Impressively, the rodeo drew contestants from across the state of Texas.
