Machakos University [2] is a public university in Machakos, Kenya.Founded in 1957 as a Technical Rural Training School by the colonial government, it was later renamed Machakos Technical and Trade School in 1958, Machakos Technical School in 1967, and Machakos Technical Training Institute (MTTI) in 1987. The institute offers full-time diploma programme in teacher education, which is recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education [2] and affiliated with the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Delhi [3]
The increase in intake in both Engineering and Polytechnic Institutions lead to increased faculty member recruitment. In order to provide In-service training to the various serving faculty members and Induction training to the newly recruited faculty members of the Technical Institutions, the Regional Institutes of Teacher Training (RITT) (now NITTTRs) were established by Government of India.
The college was shifted to its present campus in Saidapet in 1887 and it was recognized by the University of Madras as a teacher training institute in the same year. [5] The Teacher's College was upgraded as the 'Institute of Advanced Study in Education' with the assistance from the central Government of India in 1990.
