Until the mid 1980s, Haiti was nearly self sufficient in rice production, importing less than five percent of its consumption from the United States. In 1986, the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and U.S AID provided 153 million dollars in credits and loans to Haiti for economic reforms. In 1994, the IMF provided another credit.
