Old San Juan (Spanish: Viejo San Juan) is a historic district located at the "northwest triangle" [2] of the islet of San Juan in San Juan.Its area roughly correlates to the Ballajá, Catedral, Marina, Mercado, San Cristóbal, and San Francisco sub-barrios (sub-districts) of barrio San Juan Antiguo in the municipality of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
San José Church (Spanish: Iglesia de San José), located in Old San Juan within the historic colonial zone of the capital of Puerto Rico, is one of the first significant works of architecture on the island. The church was built between 1914 and 1915 and named San Agustín, after Augustine of Hippo who is traditionally considered the patron saint of the Puerta de Tierra neighborhood. The convent and school were officially founded on December 8, 1915. At the time, was the only church in the island that conducted daily services in English. [2] [4]
