The Clinton Journal is a twice-weekly newspaper that caters to readers in the town of Clinton, Illinois and its surrounding areas. [1] Originally known as the Daily Public, the Journal has been the major newspaper in Clinton since the mid-19th century. Its offices are now located at 111 S. Monroe Street, right off the downtown square.
Dan Brady (born July 4, 1961) is a former Republican member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 2001 to 2023. He represented the 105th and 88th Districts. Dan Brady was the Republican Nominee for Illinois Secretary of State in 2022, losing by 10.7%.
Clinton is the largest city and the county seat in DeWitt County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,004 at the 2020 census. [2] [3] The city and the county are named for DeWitt Clinton, governor of New York, 1817–1823. Clinton Nuclear Generating Station is located six miles away on Clinton Lake.
As of the 2020 census [1] there were 5,594 people, 2,354 households, and 1,509 families residing in the township. The population density was 149.54 inhabitants per square mile (57.74/km 2).
Stanley B. Weaver (May 23, 1925 – November 11, 2003) was an American funeral director and Republican politician active in Illinois. Weaver was born May 23, 1925, in Harrisburg, Illinois. He graduated from Urbana High School in Urbana, Illinois. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in the Pacific theater during World War II.
Prior to his selection as party chairman, Brady served on the Republican National Committee Budget Committee and chaired the RNC Ethics Committee. Brady had been active in many local and national political campaigns, most notably the McCain for president campaign, where he was a member of the Finance Committee and served as a media surrogate in the Chicago-area media market.

In 1909, a steel tipple, a hotel, school, and several homes were built. The village was home to a company store. [2] In 1921, the mine at Weaver was renamed Old Ben Twenty, as a result of the sale of the Rend properties to the Old Ben Coal Corporation, in 1921. The mine closed in 1927. [2] The village was abandoned in 1938. [2]
