Keiraville (and its neighbour Gwynneville) is known as a university town, home to the main campus of the University of Wollongong. Another major landmark, Wollongong Botanic Garden, is situated between Northfields Avenue and Murphys Avenue, and includes the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music.
Ray made an approach to Wollongong City Council for a lease of council owned land behind the Bulli Showground, and in 1987, the Illawarra Grevillea Park began being established. The garden beds, fencing, roads and paths were all constructed under Ray's guidance, with much of the work being done by volunteers. [1] [2] [4] [5] [6]
In 2005, the Summit Park refurbishment provided an opening up of magnificent vistas of the coastal plain from Kiama to Sydney, and is managed as an annexe of the Wollongong Botanic Garden. It contains 9.4 hectares of land [16] and it is a major tourist destination, many visitors to Wollongong climbing the Ken Ausburn Track.
This area has two prominent pines which can be seen from North Wollongong. Main track. From the saltworks a track, overgrown mildly with bitou bush, though easy to follow, goes just west of the dunes and then joins the main track about halfway up the reserve. Several short tracks join the main track to the beach and are marked by posts.
