Croatia on 30 May 1990 began the process of creating the independent state, and soon established and modern Croatian handball team. The first international match of the Croatian handball team was played on 14 January 1991 in Zagreb, in Kutija Šibica. It was a friendly match with Japan which ended in a draw 23:23.

The Croatia national beach handball team (Croatian: Hrvatska reprezentacija u rukometu na pijesku) is the national team of Croatia. It is governed by the Croatian Handball Federation and takes part in international beach handball competitions. [1] It was the first Croatian national team to win a gold medal at the World Games.
The Croatia national junior handball team is the national under-21/20 handball team of Croatia. Controlled by the Croatian Handball Federation that is an affiliate of the International Handball Federation IHF as well as a member of the European Handball Federation EHF, The team represents Croatia in international matches. It is governed by the Croatian Handball Federation (Hrvatski rukometni savez) and takes part in international handball competitions. Team's best results so far are 4th places at the European Championships in 2001 and 2023 [1] [2] and 8th place at the 2016 World Championship. Team finished 4th at the 2023 Four Nations Tournament in Paris. [3]
