The Republic of China Army (ROCA; also known as the ROC Army or colloquially the Taiwanese Army [2]) is the largest branch of Taiwan's military, the Republic of China Armed Forces. An estimated 80% of the ROC Army is located on the island of Taiwan, while the remainder are stationed on the Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, Dongsha, and Taiping Islands.

The Flag of the Reorganized National Government of the Republic of China, a Japanese puppet state during World War II, was based on the Flag of the Republic of China. The " Blue Sky with a White Sun flag " was designed by Lu Haodong in 1895 and is still used as the naval jack of the Republic as well as the flag of the Kuomintang (KMT).
The promulgation of the Constitution of the Republic of China in 1947 renamed the National Revolutionary Army to the Republic of China Armed Forces (中華民國國軍). Although the army was theoretically nationalized , [ 19 ] it remained effectively a party army of the Kuomintang until the 1990s. [ 20 ]
Taiwan has been controlled by various governments and has been associated with various flags throughout its history. Since 1945, the Republic of China rules the island and which became the major territorial base of the ROC since 1949, thus the flag most commonly associated with it is the Flag of the Republic of China.
