The 2018 Boys Varsity Football team were OIA Red Champions and won their first State Division I Title in school's history. The 2018-2019 Boys JV Soccer team were the OIA Division II Champions. The 2023 Boys Varsity Football team were HHSAA D1 State Champions, beating Konawaena 53-28 on November 25, 2023.
The league produces a number of quality athletic teams in a number of sports, especially football. The OIA concurs with the Hawaii Board of Education and Hawaii Department of Education in recognizing athletics as an integral part of the educational program of the high school and holds its athletes to a number of academic and behavioral standards.

The 1964 Hawaii Rainbows football team represented the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa as an independent during the 1964 NCAA College Division football season. In their third season under head coach Jim Asato , the Rainbows compiled a 4–5 record.
The first annual Calcasieu–Louisiana Fair [28] scheduled a high school football game between the hometown Lake Charles High team and Boys High, billing it as being for the state championship. The game was a very successful draw, as 3,000 of the fair's 10,000 attendees watched LCHS' 17–11 victory.
