Pwani Region (Mkoa wa Pwani in Swahili) is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions.The word "Pwani" in Swahili means the "coast".With the town of Kibaha serving as the capital, the region borders the Tanga Region to the north, Morogoro Region to the west, Lindi Region to the south, and surrounds Dar es Salaam Region to the east.

Kaole is a national historic site located in Bagamoyo District of Pwani Region in Tanzania. The site is located three miles east of the historic city of Bagamoyo on the Indian Ocean coast. The area contains old Swahili coral stone ruins dating to a period between the 13th century and the 16th century.
As of 2021, there are 31 regions (Swahili: mkoa, plural mikoa) of Tanzania which are divided into 184 districts (Swahili: wilaya). [1] [2] In 2016, Songwe Region was created from the western part of Mbeya Region. [3] [4] The districts are each administered by a district council.

The district is named after the town of Chalinze itself. The district is home to Tanzania's 5th President, Jakaya Kikwete, who was born and raised in Msoga, Chalinze District. He was also a member of parliament of the district during his political career. The district was created from Bagamoyo District in July 2016. [3]
