The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA, Chinese: 香港會計師公會) is the professional accounting body of Hong Kong. Its main responsibilities are: Registering accountants and issuing practising certificates. Regulating the professional conduct and standards of members.
From 1972 to 2004, all Professional Accountants in Hong Kong would call themselves either "AHKSA" (Associate member of HKSA) or "FHKSA" (Fellow member of HKSA). The individuals who were then licensed to sign-off audit reports were known as Certified Public Accountant or Public Accountants ("CPA or PA") prior to September 2004.
Nellie Fong was born and raised in Hong Kong. She studied at the Belilios Public School before leaving Hong Kong for the United Kingdom in 1968 to study accountancy. She is currently a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, [1] and a member of the UK's Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Sun was a member of Securities and Futures Commission between 2001 and 2007. In 2003, he became the president of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and served until 2007. He was also a member of chairman council [clarification needed] of the City University of Hong Kong from April to July 2012.
The ACCA qualification is highly accepted by the Hong Kong employment market. Most HKICPA members qualified through a joint scheme with Hong Kong Society of Accountants (HKSA) which operated for more than 20 years. HKSA later became HKICPA. [50] At the end of 2016 there were 18,238 members and over 8,000 students in Hong Kong.
