Hastings (/ ˈ h eɪ s t ɪ ŋ s / HAY-stings) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Barry County, as well as the county's only city. [5] The population was 7,514 at the 2020 census. The city borders Hastings Charter Township on the north, east, and south, and Rutland Charter Township on the west.
The Barry County Courthouse is a government building located at 220 West State Street in Hastings, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1969 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. [1]

[14] Black Bottom was one of the poorest and densest sections of Detroit, with a third of black Detroiters living within Paradise Valley. M-79 is an east–west state trunkline highway in the central portion of Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. The western terminus is about three miles (4.8 km) southeast of Hastings at the junction with M-37 and the eastern terminus is in downtown Charlotte at the junction with M-50 and Business Loop Interstate 69 (BL I-69).
