Newmarket is a market town and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England, 14 miles west of Bury St Edmunds and 14 miles northeast of Cambridge.In 2021, it had a population of 16,772.
One golf course is located within Newmarket's town limits; St. Andrew's Valley (a public club), which straddles the Aurora/Newmarket border. On August 1, 1792, William Plummer laid out 36 lots for the town. Later, on January 29, 1793, Nicholas Hall laid out an additional 134 lots. The Newmarket Town Plate is an historic British horse race which has been run in the town of Newmarket, Suffolk since 1665 [1] or 1666. [2] The race was instigated by King Charles II , who became the first and only reigning monarch to win a race in 1671. [ 1 ]
