New Parks was formerly an extra-parochial tract, [3] from 1858 New Parks was a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 1935 and merged with Leicester, part also went to form Glenfields. [4] In 1931 the parish had a population of 704. [5]
The local architect Henry Goddard added new seating and extended the gallery in 1843, and in 1855–56 he restored the roofs. In 1874–76 Joseph Goddard and Alfred Paget undertook a restoration involving the addition of new windows, building a new nave roof, and removing the gallery.
