The incorporation of classroom assessment techniques is an age-old concept which teachers have been using and practicing for years. Whether a teacher uses a technique learned in training, or simply a strategy conjured up on their own, teachers need to know if their methods are successful and many feel that the desire to understand students' comprehension is instinctive.

[4] The technique splits classes into mixed groups to work on small problems that the group collates into an outcome. [1] For example, an in-class assignment is divided into topics. Students are then split into groups with one member assigned to each topic.
Ideally, proper study skills need to be introduced and practiced as early as possible in order for students to effectively learn positive study mechanisms. According to William G. Sommer, students in a university system often adapt to the time-constraints that are placed upon them in college, and often use cramming to perform well on tests.
While if the answer is incorrect the student may be prompted to study more and are given more practice questions based on the incorrect answer. In an in-person classroom students have to move at the pace of the rest of the class which may cause students to not gain a full understanding of the content and leave many struggling to keep up.
