[1] [2] The winner, Charleston, received the conference's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA tournament. This was the first men's basketball tournament held under the Coastal Athletic Association name. The six team format was adopted again in 2012 and maintained through 2019. In the aftermath of the cancellation of the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CAA decided to include all 9 teams in the tournament in 2021, with the bottom two seeds participating in a play-in game before the traditional double-elimination tournament. All 14 CAA teams participated in the tournament. Teams were seeded by record within the conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. The top 10 teams received a first-round bye and the top four teams received a double bye, automatically advancing them into the quarterfinals.
