The Clare county hurling team represents Clare in hurling and is governed by Clare GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association.The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions - the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and the National Hurling League.
Clare has won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (SHC) five times in its history. The county won its first title in 1914 and took another 81 years to win a second title in 1995, which remains the record wait for a successive title in Senior Championship history. Clare won All-Ireland SHC titles in 1914, 1995, 1997, 2013 and 2024.

The 1988 Clare Senior Hurling Championship was the 95th staging of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Clare County Board in 1887. The championship ran from 4 June to 11 September 1988. Clarecastle entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Ruan in the semi-finals. [1]
