Mahabharat is a 2013 Indian epic mythological television series based on the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata. [3] It aired from 16 September 2013 to 16 August 2014 on Star Plus. [4] [5] The series is available digitally on Disney+ Hotstar.
[1] [2] The 166-episode show is based on Mahabharat, told by sage and seer Veda Vyasa Maharshi and supposed to be written by Lord Vinayaka Bhagavan on sage Vyasa's instruction for the bounty of human race thousands of years ago. The show starred Poovilangu Mohan, Saakshi Siva, Amit Bhargav, Neelima Rani, Ilavarasan, Nisha Krishnan and among others.
Mahabharat's music was composed by Raj Kamal and lyrics were penned by Pandit Narendra Sharma. Some songs were taken from works of devotional writers like Surdas, Raskhan etc. Apart from main songs there are also several short couplets, which covered the summary of each episode. All of these verses were sung by Mahendra Kapoor. [23] [24]
