Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology and Sciences (ANITS), was established in the Academic Year 2001–02 with the approval of the All India Council for Technology Education (AICTE), New Delhi and the Government of Andhra Pradesh and is affiliated to Andhra University (AU), Visakhapatnam.
The National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was introduced in Lok Sabha by Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource Development, on 19 July 2016 to bring NIT in Andhra Pradesh under this act. [4] It was passed by Lok Sabha on 21 July 2016 and Rajya Sabha on 1 August 2016. [5]
This university consists of the constituent and affiliated colleges. The main officers and councils of the university are chancellor, vice-chancellor (VC), rector, executive council and academic senate. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh is the chancellor of the university. The first vice-chancellor of the university was Prof. B. Krishna Gandhi.
From August 2019 he serves as the Director of Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, [2] NIT Andhra Pradesh from 14 February 2024 and he was also director of IIIT Raichur till November 2024. Prior to that he was head of department at Indian Institute of Technology Madras [ 3 ] and professor at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur .
