A satellite navigation device or satnav device, also known as a satellite navigation receiver or satnav receiver or simply a GPS device, is a user equipment that uses satellites of the Global Positioning System (GPS) or similar global navigation satellite systems (GNSS).
The GPS implements two major corrections to its time signals for relativistic effects: one for relative velocity of satellite and receiver, using the special theory of relativity, and one for the difference in gravitational potential between satellite and receiver, using general relativity.
GPS signals are broadcast by Global Positioning System satellites to enable satellite navigation.Using these signals, receivers on or near the Earth's surface can determine Position, Velocity and Time (PVT) of the receiver.
