Lexington is a suburban town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States, located 10 miles (16 km) from Downtown Boston. The population was 34,454 as of the 2020 census . [ 1 ] The area was originally inhabited by Native Americans, and was first settled by Europeans c. 1642 as a farming community.
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is a public authority in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that provides wholesale drinking water and sewage services to 3.1 million people in sixty-one municipalities and more than 5,500 large industrial users in the eastern and central parts of the state, primarily in the Boston area. There are currently three members of the commission. Its major duties include the regulation of public utility companies that distribute electric power, natural gas and water to the citizens of Massachusetts. The commission was replaced in 1919 by the Massachusetts Department of Public Works (DPW), which became the main state agency overseeing all aspects of road construction and maintenance. [6] The DPW was renamed the Massachusetts Highway Department in 1991.
