The LSSV is a GM-built Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, Chevrolet Tahoe, or Chevrolet Suburban that is powered by the 5.3 L V8 for the Tahoe, 6.0 L V8 for the Suburban, and a Duramax 6.6 L V8 turbo diesel engine for the pickup trucks. As GM has periodically redesigned its civilian trucks and SUVs since 2001, LSSVs have also been updated cosmetically.
To produce a full-size luxury SUV slotted above the Oldsmobile Bravada in both size and content, GM introduced the GMC Yukon Denali and the Cadillac Escalade. Derived from the four-door Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon, the Yukon Denali and Escalade shared a nearly identical exterior (differing primarily in grilles and divisional badging).

The GMT800 was a General Motors full-size truck platform used from the 1999 through 2009 model years. It is the foundation for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups; and the derivative GMT820 and GMT830 versions for the Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon and the Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Yukon XL full-size SUVs, respectively.
From the 1992 model year, GMC's full-size Jimmy had become the "Yukon", and so, the S-15 prefix was dropped on the smaller GMC Jimmy. Starting with the 1995 second generation, the large Blazer was rebranded as the Chevrolet Tahoe , and these mid-size SUVs were simply launched as the "all-new Chevrolet Blazer ".
