Jiuzhaigou ([tɕjòʊ.ʈʂâɪ.kóʊ] ⓘ; Chinese: 九寨沟; pinyin: Jiǔzhàigōu) is a nature reserve and national park located in the north of Sichuan Province in southwestern China. A long valley running north to south, Jiuzhaigou was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997. [ 1 ]
Formerly called Nanping County (南坪县; Nánpíng Xiàn), it was renamed in 1998 to reflect the fact that the Jiuzhaigou Valley is located within its administration. [4] The county seat, Nanping [ zh ] , was created in 2013 by the merger of Yongle Town ( 永乐镇 ), Yongfeng Township ( 永丰乡 ), and Anle Township ( 安乐乡 ).
In 1992, the town of Jiuzhaigou following the merger of Longkang Township (Chinese: 龙康乡) and Tazang Township (Chinese: 塔藏乡). [2] [4] On June 19, 1998, Nanping County, which governed the town, was renamed to Jiuzhaigou County, prompting the town of Jiuzhaigou to change its name to Zhangha after the village where its government was seated.

Pearl Shoal Waterfall (Chinese: 珍珠滩瀑布; pinyin: Zhēnzhū tān pùbù) is a waterfall located in Jiuzhaigou, Aba-Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in northern Sichuan Province, China. Located at an altitude of 2,433 metres (7,982 ft), the top of the waterfall is 310 metres (1,020 ft) in width.
The 2017 Jiuzhaigou earthquake occurred on 8 August 2017, in Zhangzha Town, Jiuzhaigou County, Ngawa Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. The earthquake was registered at M s 7.0 and killed at least 25 people in the mountainous region of northern Sichuan.
