The vast majority of laptops on the market are manufactured by a small handful of Taiwan-based original design manufacturers (ODM), although their production bases are located mostly in mainland China. Quanta Computer pioneered the contract manufacturing of laptops in 1988. By 1990, Taiwanese companies manufactured 11% of the world's laptops.

While Book is a base clamshell laptop model, the Pro is a slightly better model, while Pro 360 is a convertible like the Flex was before. The A Series was launched in 2010 and initially consisted of the "all-round" models A530, AH530 and AH550, which are offered in different variants. Similarities were displays with 39.6 cm (15.6 inches) diagonal, false led backlighting and 1366 × 768 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio, with or without anti-glare protection), as well as the built-in Intel HM55 chipset and keyboards with a numeric keypad.
They are designed to be lightweight and thinner than typical laptops. Laptops in the Swift series are the Swift 1, Swift 3, Swift 5 and Swift 7. In an announcement in February 2023, Acer changed its model serial, with the Swift 3, Swift 5 and Swift 7 series renamed as the Swift Go, Swift and Swift X respectively.
As ultrabook features became more mainstream in the mid-late 2010s, explicitly branding laptop models as "ultrabooks" became much less frequent. As of 2021, while Intel maintains the Ultrabook trademark, [ 3 ] it is rarely used for new models and has been superseded in Intel's own marketing by the Intel Evo branding.
