The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986. TAMS students are frequently quite successful in the competition; in 2016, all four TAMS students nominated by the University of North Texas won the scholarship, making UNT one of the few universities in the country to achieve this feat.
