Coryphaena is a genus of marine ray-finned fishes known as the dolphinfishes, and is currently the only known genus in the family Coryphaenidae. The generic name is from Greek κορυφή ( koryphē , "crown, top") and -αινα (- aina , feminine suffix). [ 1 ]
Attracted using "e-jelly" and bait bag containing ~250 g of fresh mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus). Captured on video on three brief occasions over ~6 minutes. Initially maintained distance before striking on third occasion; tentacle first limb to make contact but only one arm became attached.
Its name refers to the mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus), which is known as dorado ("golden") in Spanish, although it has also been depicted as a swordfish. Dorado contains most of the Large Magellanic Cloud, the remainder being in the constellation Mensa. The South Ecliptic pole also lies within this constellation.
Female mahi-mahi caught off the coast of Jamaica. Mahi-mahi are swift and acrobatic game fish with striking colours. These colours darken when the fish dies (see illustrations) [1] The current IGFA all tackle record is 39.91 kilograms (88lb), caught in 1998 in Exuma, Bahamas by Chris Johnson of Lake Mary, Florida.
