The 2023 Samford Bulldogs football team represented Samford University as a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon) during the 2023 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Bulldogs were led by ninth-year head coach Chris Hatcher and played home games at Seibert Stadium in Homewood, Alabama .
The team was known as the Howard Bulldogs through the 1965 season when Howard College was renamed as Samford University. Howard was located in Birmingham, Alabama prior to 1957. Since 1958, the Bulldogs have played their home games at Pete Hanna Stadium , which now has a seating capacity of 6,700, in Homewood.
^Stamford was stripped of the 1959 Class AA state football championship by the UIL resulting in Brady winning by forfeit 2-0. (the actual score was 19-14 Stamford). This was the first and (as of 2008) one of only two instances where a Texas state football championship was awarded via forfeit. [7]
