Limited series usually means that it's one season with set number of contained episodes and that's it. But maybe they're using it now when they cancel a show, however florida man isn't an example of that. It was produced as a limited series. The problem with Florida man is it was supposed to be 8 episodes instead of 7. Not sure why.

Limited series suck when they take a movie and turn it into a limited series. A limited series that is planned from the start as a limited series can and does work well. Limited series will be closer to a full season. Maybe 6-10 episodes. More like American Horror show or similar anthology series. The new The Witcher: Blood Origin series for Netflix was labeled a limited series and is set for 6 episodes in a standalone season. The recent Madoff tv series was labeled as an Event series. That was 4 episodes.
For Emmy eligibility reasons. The Blu-Ray was initially announced as 'Twin Peaks: The Third Season', but the title changed to 'A Limited Event Series' before release. In the Emmys, Twin Peaks competes in the limited series category, so Showtime were seemingly trying to clearly avoid placing it in the 'drama series' category.
Also any good crime limited series (like Mare of Easttown, The Night Of). Doesn't have to be a true story or based on one. Just well done! Thanks! Edit: to clarify, limited series meaning 1 really awesome season :)
