Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a 2023 first-person shooter game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision.It is the twentieth installment of the Call of Duty series and is the third entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, following Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022).
The downloadable content (DLC) available for Modern Warfare 3 is an assortment of additional multiplayer maps, Special Ops missions, and Face-Off Maps that came as part of the Call of Duty ELITE Premium membership. Downloadable content was split into four unique "Content Collections," each with 2-3 content packs.
Two other entries, Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and Modern Warfare 3 (2011), were made. The sub-series received a reboot with Modern Warfare in 2019, Modern Warfare II in 2022, and Modern Warfare III in 2023. Infinity Ward has also developed two games outside of the Modern Warfare sub-series, Ghosts (2013) and Infinite Warfare (2016).
The opening weekend of the 2023 season saw record viewership. The highest viewed match was OpTic Texas versus the Florida Mutineers, which reached a peak of over 190,000 on Twitch. The peak viewership made it the fourth-most watched CDL match of match of all time, only behind the three championship matches from 2020 to 2022.
