a little swedish mauser 101: first, there are three basic models (and some variations of those models, of course). the M94 is the carbine, with a barrel length of just a little under 18", and a bent down bolt handle. minty M94s are getting close to $1000. then there is the M96, which is the long rifle, with a barrel length of about 29" if i ...
K. m/94 Swedish carbine was designed around a 160gr round nose projectile. ~2400fps (via RL22 or Norma MRP) would do just fine on the deer out of 17 5/8" barrel (well, probably less as you have an extension). There are number of sporters build out of swede carbine and they do make an effective brush gun.

It is a Carl Gustaf Mauser stainless action (6.5x55mm) with a stainless steel barrel that says Kimber of America Sporterized. I really like the rifle because it is very short and lightweight. It also has a composite stock.
Having all of my guns stolen a few years ago, I now have a near complete collection of the ones I want. 30-06, 270 Win, 7mm-08, 7x57, 6.5x55, 243 Win, and 22-250 Rem with a couple of shotguns thrown in for good measure. That is the group of rifles that serve my purpose of killing pigs, antelope, whitetail, and varmints.
II). Comparability. (ha, ha). About the time the Swede was put into production by US ammo plants at the 45K CUP pressure standard, Remington decided to load the .264 bullet into the .308 case and make the .260 Remington at 55K CUP approx. I would compare the 6.5x55 to the 7x57mm Mauser for same era comparision.
Try the 6mm Remington/.244 Remington. It's not a necked down 6.5x55, but it is a necked down 7x57 Mauser. It does have a slight performance advantage over the .243 Win, and Ackley made an improved version called the .244 AI.
Cast in 6.5 by 55. I used to load for my x-wife. We found that Lyman #266455 a 129gr bullet and Lyman #266469 a 143gr bullet worked best. We cast out of #2 alloy and hand lubed them as the bore was a little big, but did use the sizer to set the gas check, with as I recall a sizing die that ran .277 .
There's case drawings and dimensions at Steve's Pages. The Swede is listed as the 6.5x55 Mauser there, but dimensions are the same as Hornady's. The differences between the Swede and the SKAN are slight. Both RCBS and Redding list and price the Swede with the common .30-06 class dies and the SKAN (dinavian) in the expensive custom list.

Have converted a couple of Swedes with them and they work OK. The triggers are adjustable, also. NRA Benefactor Member. NRA Certified Police Firearms Instructor.
I think many shooters have a great need for a properly sized 6.5 mm bullet. MANY of the older guns, including my Swedish Mauser Carbine made in 1898, have .268-9 grooves, while the biggest bullets offered are only .264 in deference to newer guns.
