This was only the fourth strong (EF2 or EF3) tornado to touch down during August in eastern Oklahoma since 1950.
The tornado initially touched down in an open desert area and traveled east southeast down Richardson Canyon Road, snapping off the tops and many branches off of numerous trees. The tornado intensified as it approached two homes, completely destroying a single wide mobile home and tossing a double wide mobile home into a barn.
