The 66th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 2, 2016, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country.
The Palanca Awards was established in 1950 to inspire and recognize Philippine writers, including poets, playwrights and screenwriters, and writers for children. [4] It started giving out prizes in the Short Story (English) and Maikling Kwento (Filipino) in 1951.
A total of 54 writers, 30 of whom were first-time awardees, [3] were chosen as this year's recipients. The total number of writing categories awarded was 20. Luis P.
