The Schulich School of Business is the business school of York University located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.The institution provides undergraduate and graduate degree and diploma programs in business administration, finance, accounting, business analytics, public administration and international business as well as a number of PhD and executive programs.
Ashley left Toronto in 1892, spent a few years at Harvard University, and then went back to England to the new University of Birmingham where he founded the School of Commerce. Ashley began the programme which was the forerunner of many other BCom degree programmes throughout the British Empire.
In 2002 Halifax Court was made a full College of the university and was renamed as Halifax College, York. Constantine College was founded in 2014. In 2003, the university set out plans to create a campus for 5,000 additional students, Heslington East. [9] [10] In May 2008 the City of York planners approved the design for the new campus. [11]
York University was established in 1959 as a non-denominational institution by the York University Act, [5] which received Royal Assent in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario on 26 March of that year. [6] Its first class was held in September 1960 in Falconer Hall on the University of Toronto campus with a total of 76 students. [7]
All three major national rankings place York in the top 21, with The Times placing it at 17, [82] The Guardian at 21 [83] and The Complete University Guide at 20 for 2023. [84] In The Sunday Times 10-year (1998–2007) average ranking of British universities based on consistent league table performance, York was ranked 6th overall in the UK. [85]
The university provides both residential, traditional undergraduate education and online, non-traditional programs. Baccalaureate degrees offered include the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Science.
