Dee Why / d iː ˈ w aɪ / is a coastal suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 18 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district.It is the administrative centre of the local government area of Northern Beaches Council and, along with Brookvale, is considered to be the main centre of the Northern Beaches region.

Wingala is a locality in the suburbs of North Curl Curl and Dee Why, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.It is within the Northern Beaches Council local government area.It refers to the Western section of Wingala Hill, which lies between the floodplains of Dee Why Lagoon and Curl Curl Lagoon, and forms Dee Why Headland where it meets the Tasman Sea.
It is present at Dee Why headland, a small distance to the south, separated by a fault under Dee Why beach. [1] [2] A copper mine was active at Long Reef in the 1880s, [3] after a tunnel was drilled on the southern side. A beach is formed under the cliffs and above the rock platform, with layers of shells and dark minerals.
The area had been known as Dee Why West but it was changed after Dee Why Golf Links was taken over by the Cromer Country Club in 1940. The club applied to have the area's name changed to Cromer and permission was granted to create the new suburb. [2] Cromer Post Office opened on 1 September 1959, and closed in 1992. [3]
