Interstate 696 (I-696) is an east–west auxiliary Interstate Highway in the Metro Detroit region of the US state of Michigan. The state trunkline highway is also known as the Walter P. Reuther Freeway , named for the prominent auto industry union head by the Michigan Legislature in 1971.

USS LST-696 was an LST-542-class tank landing ship built for the United States Navy during World War II. LST-696 was laid down on 25 February 1944 at Jeffersonville, Indiana, by the Jeffersonville Boat & Machine Company; launched 25 April 1944; and commissioned 25 May 1944.

The two trees represent the Groves of Cresnes, the site of the regiment's first military success in France during World War I.
