Cooper Industries was an American worldwide electrical products manufacturer headquartered in Houston, Texas. Founded in 1833, the company had seven operating divisions including Bussmann electrical and electronic fuses; Crouse-Hinds and CEAG explosion-proof electrical equipment; Halo and Metalux lighting fixtures; and Kyle and McGraw-Edison power systems products.
Delta County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas.As of the 2020 census, its population was 5,230. [1] Its county seat and largest city is Cooper. [2] The county was founded in 1870 and is named for its triangular shape, [3] which resembles the Greek letter delta.
In 1889, East Texas Normal College was founded in Cooper. The school did very well while located in Cooper, but the college moved to Commerce after the campus was destroyed in a fire in 1894. The school was later renamed East Texas State University, then Texas A&M University–Commerce. [7]
Cooper was established circa 1900, and by the mid-1930s had a church, a cemetery, and several houses. Many residents moved away after World War II, and by the early 1990s, only a church and a few widely scattered houses remained in the area. Its population was 27 in 2000. [2]
The Cooper High School Tennis Team has made appearances at the Texas state competition 8 times in its history Archived 2007-11-10 at the Wayback Machine, ranking 5th in the state for all-time appearances in conference 5A. It competed in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1992 and won the championship for three consecutive years in 1993, 1994 and 1995.
