The 17th-anniversary celebration featured a panorama of part of the Carina Nebula, and a collection of images selected from that area. [4] In its 17 years of exploring the heavens, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has made nearly 800,000 observations and snapped nearly 500,000 images of more than 25,000 celestial objects.
It is associated with a dark cloud L1450 (Barnard 205). Estimates of the distance to this nebula range from 980–1,140 ly (300–350 pc). [4] This nebula is in the western part [4] of the Perseus molecular cloud and is a young region of very active star formation, [6] being one of the best-studied objects of its type. [4]
NGC 6826 (also known as Caldwell 15) is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. It is commonly referred to as the "Blinking Planetary", although many other nebulae exhibit such "blinking". When viewed through a small telescope, the brightness of the central star overwhelms the eye when viewed directly, obscuring the surrounding ...
The image of the Horsehead Nebula captures the iconic nebula in a whole new light. NASA releases 'unprecedented' Horsehead Nebula image captured by James Webb Space Telescope. What to know about ...
NASA’s Webb Space Telescope has revealed the sharpest images yet of a portion of a horse-shaped nebula, showing the “mane” in finer detail. The Horsehead Nebula, in the constellation Orion ...
The Helix Nebula (also known as NGC 7293 or Caldwell 63) is a planetary nebula (PN) located in the constellation Aquarius. Discovered by Karl Ludwig Harding, most likely before 1824, this object is one of the closest of all the bright planetary nebulae to Earth. [3] The distance, measured by the Gaia mission, is 655±13 light-years. [4]
The nebula is known as S 142 in the 1959 Sharpless catalog (Sh2-142). [2] It is extremely difficult to observe visually, usually requiring very dark skies and an O-III filter. The NGC 7380 complex is located at a distance of approximately 8.5 kilolight-years from the Sun , in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way .
NGC 3132 (also known as the Eight-Burst Nebula, [2] the Southern Ring Nebula, [2] or Caldwell 74) is a bright and extensively studied planetary nebula in the constellation Vela. Its distance from Earth is estimated at 613 pc or 2,000 light-years .
