FM 423 is major north–south arterial through the cities of The Colony, Frisco, and Little Elm, providing access to area highways for both existing residences and new subdivisions being developed in central Denton County. Hackberry, Little Elm and Dickson combined efforts in the 1930s to build the Little Elm Rural High School and it saw its first graduating class in 1974.
