Dahlonega Gold Museum. The Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site is a Georgia state historic site located in Dahlonega that commemorates America's first gold rush [1] [2] and the mining history of Lumpkin County. [3] The museum is housed in the historic Old Lumpkin County Courthouse built in 1836 and located in the center of the town square.
The park's museum was built to incorporate part of an excavated mound; it provides an authentic setting for viewing artifacts. The museum features a film about how this mound was built and excavated. In March 1974, a thief entered the museum at the park and stole more than 129 ancient pots and effigies, numerous arrowheads, and other treasures.

[1] Part of the Cascade Range, it is situated near the base of the Success Cleaver, overlooking Indian Henry's Hunting Ground. The nearest higher neighbor is Copper Mountain, 0.3 miles (0.48 km) to the north. [2]
The Iron Mountain Motel was constructed in 1954-55 by contractors Oscar Leaf and Calvin Calvini for Mr. and Mrs. Michael Fornetti, [2] whose family owned the Moon Lake Cabins north of Iron Mountain. The Fornettis operated the motel until the later 1970s, changing the name to Downtown Motel by 1967.
Several ski resorts are located along the Gogebic Range including Whitecap Mountain in Iron County and Big Powderhorn Mountain and Snow River Mountain Resorts in Gogebic County. There is also a natural ski hill by Lake Superior at Porcupine Mountains State Park, less than an hour from Ironwood.
