Owego is a town in Tioga County, New York, United States. The population was 18,728 at the 2020 census. [ 2 ] The name is derived from the Iroquois word Ahwaga , meaning "where the valley widens".

Tioga County is in southwest New York State, west of Binghamton and directly north of the border with Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna River flows into Pennsylvania from this county. The county is considered part of the Southern Tier region of New York State. The highest elevation is an unnamed 1,994-foot (608 m) hill in the county's northern corner.

Howard W. Robison was born in Owego, New York on October 30, 1915, the son of Addison J. Robison and Pluma (Moe) Robison. [1] [2] He was educated in Owego, and graduated from Owego Free Academy. [3] He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1937 and received his LL.B. degree from Cornell Law School in 1939.
