Haverford Township is a home rule municipality township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. [3] Haverford is named after the town of Haverfordwest in Wales. It is a commuting suburb located due west of Philadelphia and is officially known as the Township of Haverford .
The Oakmont School was built on Eagle Road at Hathaway Lane in 1912 to serve as the new high school. It remained the high school until 1923. With the dawn of a new decade and World War I in the past, Haverford Township began experiencing another wave of expansion. In 1923, the "new" Haverford High School on Darby Road was completed.

The Haverford neighborhood name was borrowed from the older entity, Haverford Township (established 1681) to which much of the unincorporated community belongs, as the result of a postal code address change in 1946. [2] [3] Haverford Township's namesake is in turn derived from the name of the town of Haverfordwest in Wales, UK. [4] [5]
The school was founded in 1884 at the request of Alexander and Lois Cassatt, niece of President James Buchanan, as The Haverford College Grammar School.Affiliated initially with neighboring Haverford College until 1903, the school became independent, changed its name to The Haverford School, and moved to its current location across Railroad Avenue from the college.
