County Road 42 was authorized and paved during the 1960s. In July 2007, construction began to widen County Road 42 to six lanes from Glendale Road in Savage to County Road 5 in Burnsville. Also, the old traffic signals between Glendale Road and County Road 5, were replaced with new ones. The project was completed by summer 2008.

Minnesota State Highway 120 (MN 120) is a 7.2-mile-long (11.6 km) state highway in Minnesota, which runs from a point south of its interchange with Interstate 94 (I-94) in Maplewood (near Landfall) and continues north to its northern terminus at its intersection with MN 244 and County Road 15 (CR 15) at the White Bear Lake–Mahtomedi boundary line.
The northern section of the roadway, between Rogers and Elk River, is 6.9 miles (11.1 km) in length. This is a busy highway, well-used on weekends by Twin Cities travelers going west on Interstate 94/US Highway 52 (I-94/US 52) through Elk River and continuing north on US 169 to Mille Lacs Lake and other lakes in Central Minnesota.
In 2004, construction was finished on the northern portion of MN 100 between I-394 and I-694, making MN 100 a freeway for its entire length. The section between MN 7 and I-394 in St. Louis Park, the oldest part of the freeway, was reconstructed into a 6-lane freeway, completed in Nov. 2016. [ 2 ]
