I need to save an AI file as an SVG file. I've gone through the steps and saved; however, the font size and shape looks different when I open the SVG file. I've done this for previous files with no problem. I've attached a PDF showing the difference (the top wording is the AI file, the bottom wording is how the SVG file appears).
I am using illustrator to process my data, in form of vector file (svg). Usually Illustrator handles them very well, when files are small (typically some hundred kb). While a file is big, Illustrator has problem opening it, and only open a small part of whole trace (see the attached pictures). Won...
The IDs rename by themselves. If I copy an object in the file, the illustrator UI freezes temporarily for about 10 minutes. No crashes though, but it gives a hard time to work on a simple SVG file. Even saving the file take a lot of time. There are good lot of objects in the file but that does not mean the software would stop responding.
I know I can open it in Illustrator save as a EPS file then open into photoshop but I would prefer a quicker method than that work around. I found a Plug-In that will do this but it cost 99 for a year license and I do not use SVGs enough to justify the cost.
I can't import an .svg file that's been exported from Sketch to Illustrator CC 2017. I can import other kinds of .svg files, downloaded from open source sites for example, but not from Sketch. When I import an .svg item exported from Sketch, Illustrator 2017 freezes and crashes every time. Every single time.
Type supported file types in the search help field or type SVG in the search help field at the top right corner of AE and you'll come up with this: Still image file formats Best option is to open in Illustrator and save as an AI file. Some limited types of SVG may work but generally it is not a supported format for video.
The year is now 2014. I am using Illustrator CC 17.0.0. I am still having this same (original) problem: when I open an SVG file in Illustrator, even an SVG file that Illustrator itself generated and saved just minutes earlier, I get the image with my gradients all gone, my clipping masks screwed up, and several of my symbols missing.
Paul-M is right, SVG won't display in Design View. If you really need to create an image map on an SVG, replace it with a jpg or png, place the map areas, then replace the src with the svg file path. A word of warning though, if you plan to have a responsive image (I assume that's at least part of the reason you're using .svg), a standard image ...
SVG is not a native file format, but still you can export it as you can with several other non-native file formats. Same goes for importing. Reading and writing SVG in Illustrator has several known issues. The W3C validator will notify you of the issues with the file. Maybe Inkscape can open it. But maybe you have to get back to the customer.
Save for screens has the most modern code. Then run that SVG through the W3C validator. If the code is valid, then the issue is with draw.io, not with Illustrator. Don't expect anything to be fully editable or to retain formatting. This is not a native file format of Illustrator.
