First discovered and excavated in the 1930s, the site exhibits purported evidence of human use from 9,000 to 11,000 years ago. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961. [2]

Bandelier National Monument is a 33,677-acre (136 km 2) United States National Monument near Los Alamos in Sandoval and Los Alamos counties, New Mexico.
