Sep 16, 2002. #1. The title pretty much says it all I picked up a new yamaha bb604 bass for $329 yesterday and it's a LOT of bass for the money. The nathan east preamp is really nice and I love the adjustable mid cut toggle. Lots of growl and tones that are hard to beat for under a grand. Check em out Btw, no pics, but mine's the wine red burst ...
For anyone who might be conidering a Fender MIM Jazz, all i can say is Yamaha BB604. It sounds hell of a lot better for more or less the same price. I will try and get a pic on, but if there's any questions concerning this fine bass, im open for questioning. P.S. Sorry for sounding like a very excited school kid with a new toy.
Jun 15, 2005. #6. BB604 is my main axe. I have been constantly impressed with the value for money of this bass. It's done everything i've asked of it so far, playing most styles and covering a relative sound quite well. Construction is wonderful, no problems with it what so ever.

Durham NC. Oct 14, 2006. #3. I had a BB604 for a couple years, and very much regret selling it. Awesome value. It had a wide variety of sounds, and the always great Yamaha neck and build. The real secret is the Nathan East EQ. The most useful tone shaping feature out there.
Sep 8, 2004. #1. Hello, I am a beginner who is going to buy his first bass . And I have got two candidates: Yamaha bb604 ---> 370 (about 448$) Yamaha bb1000MA ---> 400 (about 484$) The bb604 is active, and the 1000ma passive, but the bb1000 has marked down to 400 from list of 700 ! I'm gonna play Ac/Dc, Beatles, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Status Quo ...
Damn Gas.. I sold my G&L JB-2 because I didn't like the neck radius..too small (7.5") So I was looking around for a "replacement" I have a Sterling already but I wanted some more tone options for when I get bored. So I went to my local music store and found out they are now selling Yamaha. I...
Hi all. I'm very close to ordering a new bass for my birthday (next weekend) I tried the BB604 out in a shop briefly today - and I really liked it. It was a natural satin colour with gold hardware and active pick-ups - which gave a really bright funky sound. It was really light (compaired...
I found the fender MIM neck to be chunkier than the BB604 neck. This might have been because the BB neck has smaller frets and 24 of them instead of the MIMs more jumbo 20 frets. I also found the Yamaha more comfortable to play because of this (pehaps because it felt closer to my current bass).
176. 4,841. Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada. Oct 30, 2021. #1. I'm in the brainstorming stage of doing an electronics/pickups upgrade to my Yamaha BB604. Considering going with EMG RT's (vertically-challenged EMG J with a bling-bling metal cover), paired with an EMG BQS preamp. I'd likely be getting 4 single & 1 concentric Gotoh gold metal knobs ...
