Grundy is located in the coalfields of the Appalachian Mountains. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.040 square miles (13.05 km 2), of which 4.986 square miles (12.91 km 2) is land and 0.054 square miles (0.14 km 2) is water.
