San Marcos (/ ˌ s æ n ˈ m ɑːr k ə s /) is a city and the county seat of Hays County, Texas, United States. The city is a part of the Greater Austin Metropolitan Area. San Marcos's limits extend into Caldwell and Guadalupe counties, as well. San Marcos is on the Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio.

SH 21 mostly follows the alignment of the Old San Antonio Road and the El Camino Real, except for the portion between Midway and Bryan, where the Old San Antonio Road took a more northerly route, and SH 21 follows a more direct route.
Loop 82 crosses Texas State Highway 80 before the route turns to the east, with both directions using University Drive. The route passes San Marcos City Park and crosses the San Marcos River, then passes through the eastern part of the Texas State University campus as Aquarena Springs Drive. Loop 82 reaches its northern terminus at I-35 exit 206.
