The election was the first time a Democrat won re-election to the U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania since the 1962 election. As of 2025, this is the last time that Fayette County and Luzerne County voted Democratic in a Senate election. This is also the only time since 1956 that Democrats have won a Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race in a presidential year.
